Trace Circuits Inc. supplies contract services for electrical circuit design, pcb layout and prototype test of electrical circuit board assemblies.

Incorporated in 2002 by Dean Young, a former Nortel Networks designer. Dean has six years experience at Nortel Networks dealing mainly with hardware design and managing teams of h/w designers for Nortel's 10Gbps and 40Gbps optical amplifier programs. Prior to work on the optical amplifier products he developed a number of board level products for Nortel's OC-192 SONET system. These products included the first gigabit ethernet to OC-192 mapper card, an OC-48 linecard, and controller cards for the OC-192 system.

With over 19 years of experience including stints with EMS Technologies, Mitel Corporation and Bell Canada, Dean has developed a broad range of knowledge in control of optical modules, high speed electrical circuit design, design for testability, realtime firmware development and prototype test techniques.

In addition to the practical experience he has earned a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from Carleton University, a BASc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto and an EE Technicians diploma from Algonquin College. The topic of his MEE thesis was “Clock recovery for a 622Mbps (OC-12) bit stream” where he designed a circuit which was used to develop a clock recovery chip at Carleton University.

Trace Circuits collaborates with local Ottawa contractors to bring in expertise which is outside our area of knowledge including reliability studies by Wing Recs. Dean is licensed to practice Profession Engineering in the province of Ontario and is a member of IEEE.
